Thomas Jefferson Quotes

Does this belong on the IndexWa.org Blog? I’m not sure but, here are some interesting quotes from Thomas Jefferson (not all have been verified) that pertain to TODAY. Food for thought.

“When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.” Thomas Jefferson

“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” Thomas Jefferson

“It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.” Thomas Jefferson

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” Thomas Jefferson

“My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.” Thomas Jefferson

“No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.” Thomas Jefferson

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” Thomas Jefferson

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” Thomas Jefferson

“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” Thomas Jefferson

Very Interesting Quote. In light of the present financial crisis, it’s interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.” Thomas Jefferson

We Are Still Active!

Hey folks, the site and blog are still quite active however, we have had nothing to post lately.

We would like to let you know that any posts that allow comments will only allow comments for a period of 120 days.  At the 120 day mark, comments close.  Most comments come within the first 3 days but we have found some people comment much later or when they stumble upon our site.

We have received many emails lately and all have been responded to, but they were not the type that would require a posting to the blog.  One email did end up in the Q & A section of the blog.

BTW, the IndexWa.org Gift / Apparel Shop has been quite active.  We are pleased and we thank all those that have made a purchase for their support.

Enjoy the mild temps while they last.

Apologies About a Post

Recall the PLEA? from Allan? And the connection was made?

I think we led people to believe this was a love type ordeal and one person wanting to find another.

NOPE. This is a penpal / hiking relationship and a friendship. Nothing more.

Again, we are sorry if things came across wrong on the posts and the newsletter.

Ed

Plea Answered

Thanks to a reader of News as It Happens and a few phone calls, Alan’s plea was answered and the “lady” has been found.  She has agreed to a contact from Alan and she is just as excited as Alan.

We promised to keep their privacy.

Small world we live in!!  Thanks to all for your help.

Plea From a Visitor

I received and email from a visitor to the site and had been awaiting his permission to publish it. He is seeking a lady that he met some time back. If YOU ARE THAT LADY or YOU KNOW who it is, please pass this on and I will let Alan know she has been found and I will pass on Alan’s email address to her.
——————-
Hello Ed, I must congratulate you on your website. Very clear and informative. I love hiking in Washington and I visit as many websites connected with Washington as I can to get information and inspiration. I was wondering if you could help me contact a lady that I met in the R.E.I. store in Seattle back in September. We talked about hiking around Index and I told her that I had just hiked from Snoqualmie Pass to Canada on the PCT. We looked at maps of the area and she told me that she was a writer and lived in Index. (Maybe she writes for your website?) Unfortunately I never asked her name and our conversation was interrupted by a salesperson. So if, by some strange coincidence, you know the lady I’m talking about please pass her my e-mail address. It’s always a dodgy area estimating a lady’s age but I would guess she is in her early forties, very petite and attractive. If it jogs her memory I told her that I work/live on a private yacht. I’m currently in the Caribbean enjoying the sunshine. Hope you can help me contact her Ed, Cheers Alan

UPDATE 01.26.09 – We sent this out via News as It Happens and received a response from somebody that may know the person Alan is searching for.  Stay tuned.

Thank You Mr. Cox

A week or so ago, T. Cox sent me an email asking for my snail mail address.  We get this request about 10 times a year as people send us items for the Index Historical Society or news clippings etc;.

After arriving home from work yesterday, I was going through my mail and there was a thank you note and a Starbucks card enclosed in the envelope.

I was SHOCKED.  This mans generosity gave me that warm feeling that you get when somebody really cares.

The IndexWa.org site is a lot of work and it is nice to know we are appreciated.

Mr. Cox.  This is our public THANK YOU for your kindness.  You don’t know what it means to us.

The Drug Problem in America

The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, “Why didn’t we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?”

I replied: “I had a drug problem when I was young”:

I was drug to church on Sunday morning.

I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.

I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.

I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn’t put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profane four-letter word.

I was drug out to pull weeds in mom’s garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad’s fields.

I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today’s children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.
