Seeking an Answer to a Question

In your opinion, what constitutes a Garage Sale?

My problem is, there is somebody on the block whom has a Garage Sale 7 days a week for the past couple of months.

At some point in time, should it not be construed as a business and therefore be required to get a business license from the Town and pay taxes to the town on the sales?

Maybe I’m being nit-picky but it just does not seem right. In my frame of thought, it’s a business if it’s doors are open 7 days a week all year long.

By Alejandro Dominguez, Herald Writer
MONROE — Rock blasting on Highway 522 will be delayed.

The Washington State Department of Transportation had planned to do a series of closures in November to widen lanes on Highway 522. It’s part of a $159.7 million project to prevent head-on collisions on the highway.

The blasting has now been postponed until spring, when the weather is drier, DOT spokeswoman Bronlea Mishler said.

With less rain, Scarsella Brothers Inc. of Kirkland can have more control over erosion and reduce pollution in the……

Scottish Traditional Music Concert and School Program in Index

LAKE FOREST PARK – September 8, 2011 – Northwest Heritage Resources is pleased to present a concert and school program of Scottish traditional music in Index on Friday, October 7, 2011 in partnership with the Index Historical Society. The concert, a benefit for the Index Museum, is scheduled for 7:00 pm at The River House in Index, corner of 5th and A St., and will be preceded by a program at the Index School the afternoon of October 7th. Evening admission is by donation of any amount at the door.

The concert and school program will feature Scottish traditional fiddler Ryan McKasson, who will be joined by Dave Bartley on guitar. McKasson is a talented fiddler who, in 1996, was the youngest musician to win the National Scottish Fiddle Championship. In 2004 he and his sister Cali formed the band, The McKassons, and since 2002 he’s been the fiddler for reknowned contra dance band, The Syncopaths. McKasson has taught at numerous fiddle schools and camps, including the Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp, Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddling School and Washington state’s Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, and has performed at concert halls and folk venues throughout the U.S. He has also recorded with well known Scottish fiddlers Hanneke Cassel and Alasdair Fraser. Dave Bartley has performed traditional Celtic and Balkan music and joined other World music ensembles, but is just as comfortable playing classical music with the Seattle Symphony and Opera, as well as jazz, rock, swing, and cabaret music.

This benefit concert is funded in part by Northwest Heritage Resources and the National Endowment for the Arts.
