Boy, this has been one tough year and it has just begun.
We have had more power outages than I (in my 9 years up here in Index) have ever seen.
And today no phone service until just recently (maybe the past 2 hours)? I just checked.
We were able to speak to a Frontier employee in Monroe while doing our banking. He stated “I just overheard a conversation that somebody by ‘some bridge’ had sliced through a fiber optic line”.
So, on our way home, we checked all the bridges (and there are quite a few) between Monroe and Index and we saw no activity at all. We guess it could have been further up toward Baring or on the South Fork.
Who knows. Life is back to normal as of 7:46 pm.

Well, we made it through the night without losing power and it is beginning to rain.
We’ll call this Phase II. The river will soon begin raging and the weak branches that were held in place with ice will begin falling and the wall will begin with its mini-avalanches of rock and boulder.
Let’s hope power stays on for a few days!!
Today must have been our 8th power outage within the town due to inclement weather. This one last about 10 hours, so if you think your buddies are ignoring your emails, they are not.
We have about 21″ to 23″ of snow in places in our yard.
Stay tuned.
Since we have lived in Index, we have lost power many times for days on end but this is a record for us. We are losing power for short periods (1-10 hours at a time) multiple times a day. Snow status is currently about 12.5″, stormy and dumping snow.
See the UPS info below:
In 1.5 Days:

In the past week:

Thankfully the UPS shuts down everything within a minute or two without causing damage.
How are things in your neighborhood?
If you have noticed, our donation goal for 2012 is a bit aggressive. NO, it has nothing to do with greed. All of our donors may be rest assured that YOUR donations go to the bills we pay and software we need to continue running indexwa.org. The year 2013 will be even more aggressive and then we can curtail after 2013.
That said, the reason for being so aggressive for the next two years is: our computer is on its last leg so to speak. Oh, it runs great but has been in use for 6 years but we know the CPU will give up soon (from experience we know this).
Are we asking you to buy us a new computer? Indirectly, yes. We use our computer 85% of the time to run our site, blog and forums. Our computer runs 18-20 hours a day and some time 24 hours a day. We just lost our good monitor ($265.00) after 3 years of use so we are back on our old monitor which requires a squinty eye to work.
To view our current computer / cpu configuration, click HERE. Our goal is to double everything you see. We calculate around $1,600.00 to do it correctly. (We order parts piece by piece to make sure we are getting what we want and what we pay for).
Our cameras are costly too however, since it’s our hobby, we never ask for donations for our camera equipment even though 99.9% of the photos on our site and blog come out of one of our best cameras. We even shoot photos events for non-profits or the fire department or what have you, no charge. We always try to give back to the community.
Donators have extra features in our forums too. We have a Donor Group, VIP Group and a VIP+ Group. The VIP+ Group requires something special from a Donor, but we keep that a secret. You’ll know what that secret is once you are in the VIP+ Group. It varies from user to user.
