A cougar has been reported to be in the area. It left evidence at Wave-Trec Rescue which is just across the bridge from town on the Index Galena Road. Chris Jonason, owner of Wave-Trec, says “He ate one of my turkey’s”.

Prepare for periods of sluggish traffic and closed lanes near Marysville and Sultan next week as state road projects move forward.
Work on a three-year, $50 million project to replace the aging swing-span bridge over Ebey Slough is expected to result in overnight lane closures on Highway 529 between Everett and Marysville.
At the same time, drivers traveling between Sultan and Gold Bar on U.S. 2 can expect about two weeks of daytime delays as Washington Department of Transportation crews repair the highway’s pavement.

Please call if you can help – 360-793-1202. Thanks!
Amy lives on Index Ave. Call for more info and if you can help.
Just a short clarification.
I some time send News as It Happens for other people within the town.
The previous News as It Happens that was sent out, the one about the Block Watch Meeting, was sent out as it was relayed to me.
Please don’t take it personal when something like the following comes to you:
“This meeting is only for people living in the town and does not include Skyko 1 or surrounding areas.”
I apologize if there is confusion on this note. “I did not set the rules” for this meeting. I’m just the messenger.
PS – I am sure if you attend, there will not be an issue. This meeting is to assign block captains within the town is my understanding.

A HUGE thank you to Dave & Jodi Joanis for their generous donation.
We were out of town yesterday and it was a very pleasant surprise to find a donation sitting in our inbox.
We were struggling a bit trying to figure out how to get 3 items paid for (had some software upgrades to do to keep the site rolling smoothly).
Thanks again to all that have donated and we welcome Dave & Jodi to our Donor Page.

INDEX — A group of rock climbers is nearly finished raising a mountain of money to preserve an internationally renowned granite wall near this mountain town.
The Washington Climbers Coalition has pulled together about $250,000 in the past year to buy the Index Town Wall. It hopes to raise another $50,000 by September.
Volunteers with the coalition are so confident they will meet their goal that plans are under way now for a mid-September celebration.
“That would be true,” said Doug Walker, 59, of Shoreline. “I think we can get this done.”
The group’s mammoth fundraising effort will help rescue the 500-foot wall from possible development.
“What’s amazing about Index is you’ll do a climb there and every inch of every pitch is just stellar,” he said. “You often don’t get that experience.”
