I spent my summers in Index growing up. My grandparents – Frank and Leota Cline – lived in the house on the curve before the RR bridge coming into town from HWY 2.

Many a time we had to go the the Index Tavern to get Grandpa to come home to dinner.

He actually killed a bear in their back yard-trying to get into the house.

Penny candy at the store was the ultimate. Making apple butter over the fire in the back yard, LuLu the dog (gramma had more than one), swimming and fishing in the river.

I fell in one time and almost drowned (lost my brand new red penny loafers). Waving to the bums on the train as it went rumbling by, camping at Mineral Creek and Sunset falls.

Many many great memories.
