Friends of Heybrook Ridge Press Release
Hoedown 2011 will be held October 22 at the River House in Index. Hosted by the Friends of Heybrook Ridge, Hoedown is a fun family event to raise money for building trails on Heybrook Ridge and to fund the carving of River Woman totem pole by noted Haida carver Ralph Bennett. Music will be by Spare Rib & The Bluegrass Sauce and special guests. Admission is $20 for adults, children under 12 are free. Great food will be provided and a silent auction will offer art by local artists as well as goods and services. A worthy cause and fabulous fun! What could be better?
The Friends of Heybrook Ridge is a local environmental success story. A small group of people came together to preserve a forested ridge near Index from being logged. With an anonymous half-million-dollar donation, the Friends raised over $600,000, which was matched by Snohomish County, creating a 130-acre park in 2008. The Friends are now close to their goal of raising $30,000 to construct trails on the ridge. Recently they agreed to sponsor River Woman Totem Project, a sculpture being carved from a 35-foot old-growth salvaged log in Index. For more information go to www.heybrookridge.org.
