From Bob Foster: Safe 4th of July
Most folks like to spend their 4th of July weekend ringing in Summer with play, a barbeque with family or friends or getting their yards in shape.
The recent theft of a small personal computer here in Index made me painfully aware that many of us are not ready to be a victim. Crime does not take a holiday and thieves walk among us.
The victim of this crime had not recorded the serial and model numbers of the stolen computer, nor had the theft been immediately reported to the Sheriff’s Office.
One of the key elements in any neighborhood watch program is recording and safely keeping information off of electronic items or other valuables in the unfortunate event they are stolen. This is simple and easy to do, it just requires a commitment to ourselves.
Celebrate this holiday with friends and family, work in the yard and have a great holiday and start the celebration with one simple step, make a commitment to record and save information off of valuables, or borrow an engraver and mark valuables with your mark.
And by all means neighbors, if you experience theft or vandalism, CALL 911, period!
If you think that by calling 911 and reporting your theft or vandalism is ineffective, it’s even MORE ineffective when we don’t and the thief wins!
Have a Great and safe 4th!
Bob
