Kroger has announced that they are recalling select varieties of dog and cat food sold in some of its retail stores because the products may contain a substance, Aflatoxin, which can cause serious illness and even death to pets if consumed.

Aflatoxin can cause pets to exhibit signs of illness including sluggishness or lethargy combined with a reluctance to eat, a yellowish tint to the eyes or gums, and severe or bloody diarrhea. Pet owners whose animals experience any of these symptoms are advised to contact a veterinarian immediately.

Kroger said its customers who have purchased a recalled item should not use it and instead return it to a store for a refund or replacement.
