Index Road ALMOST Ready for Reopen

Mount Index River Road, also known as Forest Service Road 6020, is open with one lane of traffic for local residents from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. this weekend.

It is not scheduled to be open to the public until Wednesday.

Workers are building a new roadway into the hillside adjacent to the old road, and unexpected problems have postponed the opening to all traffic.

A landslide last Saturday closed access  to the road.  It’s a bit west of Index and connects people there with U.S. 2.

Any word on the south fork road?

Thanks for the comment. As of this moment, I have heard nothing. I drive by it two times a day during the week and cars are still parked on HWY 2. About 6:50pm last night I did see a car go up the hill but did not see how far he/she went.
UPDATE: Tonight 01.22.09 I drove by and no cars were parked on HWY 2. There is a barrier on the road that is slightly opened and I could not read the sign at 60 MPH. My guess is, local traffic only at the present.
