March 2008 Minutes Posted

The Town Council Public Meeting Approved minutes for March 2008 have been posted to the site. You may access them by clicking here.

Last night was a lengthy meeting. Adjournment was around 9:25 pm and the Agenda for the evening was not yet complete. There was quite a lengthy agenda to everybody’s surprise, but the town has changed over the years and people are becoming more aware of their surroundings in this day and age, therefore the council has more agenda.

Of importance (and I may not be 100% on this, so it is best to contact Town Hall to be accurate):

1. There will be no Hazardous Material disposal this year within the town. The drop off is in Sultan and only on the weekend of the 26th of April.

2. The time for getting rid of wood debris has been extended through the end of September. Hours of operation are Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. (I am not sure if the station is open during the week. I think I fell asleep on that one).

3. Index Clean-up dumpster will be available May 10, 2008 (2nd Saturday in May).

The following agenda(s) were tabled until next month:
- 4th of July Special Events Checklist
- Ordinance #398, Noise
- Ordinance #399, Fireworks

Some interesting points were brought up about fireworks and their hazards to the river as well as to the community in general.

One thing that Mayor Albert pointed out (which is actually a very good point) is, he wants the council to do things right. He stated “long after he is gone and current council members are gone, what they do today will affect the town in years to come, so he wants it all in writing”. Also he stated that previously you could go to Wes Smith or somebody else and just ask “why was this or that law put into the books”? and you would have an answer, but those days are gone so he wants everything in writing and clarified for future generations. Kudos to Mayor Albert for thinking things through before acting.

Time allowing, you really should attend a meeting. The meeting is normally adjourned by 8:30 pm. Meetings begin at 7:00 pm. If you live in the town it is a good time to voice your concerns. Mayor Bruce Albert and the council in general are good listeners and act upon important matters quite swiftly. I would like to personally add that Mayor Albert conducts a very good meeting, keeping it in order and he does not allow the conversations to get sidetracked.

I may sound biased in this small newsletter but I was very impressed last night by the flow of the meeting and the thought process that has evolved in my short 5+ years in this town. I have only attended meetings for about 6 months now and they seem to be getting better every month. The town council really does show interest in what is best for the citizens of The Town of Index.

Thanks to Lisa, our Town Clerk, for sending the minutes to us!!
