Sitting Here and Watching the Traffic in Index

Every Memorial Day after the long weekend (on Monday) starting in the afternoon, Highway 2 backs up like crazy.

Being in Index for 10 years now, we know as well as all the locals know it’s best to stay home on this Monday.

The wife and I have sat in the living room today KNOWING that Reiter Rd. is closed and we have seen so far (as of this writing) at least 75 cars, trucks with trailers and more, make the run up Reiter to avoid the mess on U.S. 2.

And as we sit here, we watch EACH AND EVERY ONE of those vehicles, make the trek back down and past our home to once again go to HWY 2.

I should have set up a chair and table with a tip jar in front of our house and stopped each and every one of them to warn them to turn around now as Reiter is closed. At the price of gas, we could have made a few bucks today.

But naw, I got so irritated at the bozo’s going 40-45 mph through here we decided to let them figure it out.

It’s been fun to see the smiles pass by and the frowns pass by on their way back through beautiful Index. That’ll keep them away!!
