Saturday, April 25th Event
This Saturday the 25th some 40 students from the University of Washington Bothell campus will be visiting Index as part of a field trip for their environmental history course. This is the third class that Dr. David Stokes has brought to town in the last two years. They will visit the Index-Pickett Historical Museum, then walk onto Heybrook Ridge, and later visit a nearby old-growth timber site.
The trip allows students to use our area as a real-life setting for what they are learning in the classroom. They will be focusing on the historical and environmental events which have influenced our town, along with those of Skykomish, which they will visit in the morning.
Local instructors are Bob Hubbard, Louise Lindgren, and David Cameron, along with Bob Kelly at Skykomish. The Index School District will allow access to the ridge across their property.
This is the first utilization of the Heybrook area since its designation as a county park this past summer, and it serves one of the major goals of The Friends of Heybrook Ridge by its use for educational purposes.
