Regarding the June 6 article, “$748,000 will help build Reiter trails and hire warden”: When I read the article, I couldn’t help wondering about the money that will be spent on “Reiter trails.” I enjoy the outdoors and have been to Reiter Road. It is a nice area, but I think something is being overlooked.

INDEX — About $748,000 was awarded last week to help develop trails at Reiter Foothills, with at least some of the money slated to hire a warden for the area.
That’s in addition to $325,000 already provided by the Legislature to develop non-motorized trails in the area.
The Department of Natural Resources is seeking to develop 35 miles of trails on the 2,000 acres between Index and Gold Bar. Half of the property will be developed for use by four-wheelers and dirt bikes. The rest would be for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. The total cost to develop the trails is pegged at $3.6 million.

A nudist club agrees to drop its legal challenge against the state’s transfer of trust lands to Snohomish County.

SULTAN — An outdoor recreation club for nudists agreed last month to dismiss its lawsuit challenging state’s transfer of trust lands to Snohomish County for a future gun range.
While letting the state off the hook, Lake Bronson Associates has vowed to keep close watch on Snohomish County and its plans to build a public shooting range along Sultan Basin Road. Concerns about noise and environmental damage remain for the club and other neighbors.

SULTAN — The lake that provides 95 percent of the city’s water is empty.
Workers discovered there was a leak at the bottom of the dam at the man-made lake on Wednesday morning. To keep water flowing to the city’s taps, Sultan is getting water from Everett.
The reservoir, known as Lake 16, is located 2 miles from the city’s water treatment plant and is a 45-minute drive from downtown.

STARTUP — People in this community east of Sultan were shocked earlier this year to learn that they soon could be living in a special flood-hazard area.
To the best anyone can recall, this unincorporated area north of the Skykomish River had never flooded — at least not since the late-19th century, when raised railroad tracks were built, creating a dike between their community and the river.

STARTUP — In an effort to reduce the risk of collisions on a stretch of U.S. 2, a popular place to park will disappear.
The state Department of Transportation is scheduled to work today and tomorrow installing a 32-inch tall concrete barrier along eastbound U.S. 2, west of the Wallace River Bridge.
The bridge is located between Startup and Gold Bar.
