Photos: The Cedar Log Arrival Into the Town of Index

The cedar log arrived as planned, at 10am this morning, transported by Mike Eddy (and he was on time!!).

Master wood carver Ralph Bennett, showed up also adding a lot of flare to the morning.

Enjoy the photos:

Photo: Humming Bird Feeding

This year the humming birds are crazy. They are every where. We think we have one bush that is a breeding ground this year.

There are 8 young ones flying around showing no fear at all. One landed on my back the other day for a couple of seconds, then dashed off.

Humming birds only lay 2 eggs per season and we have 8 babies here.

Check out this photo of a baby being fed from the feeder while my wife holds it.

Photos: Fire Fighters Water Down Students

As tradition has it, every year on the last day of school, Fire District #28 and Captain Ernie Walters, sprays the children down for a good soaking.

Many thanks to Dana Startfire for the photos.

Photos: Official Block Watch Training Session

The first official training for a Block Watch was held on June 14, 2010 at 5:30 PM. If you did not attend, you really missed out on:

  • Meeting your close neighbors
  • Really great fellowship
  • A great taco buffet lead by Karen Sample and the ladies that assisted
  • And the most important item: The Sheriff’s Department assistance and training.

The meeting was opened after everybody stuffed their bellies, by our Mayor, Bruce Albert.

This was a very informative meeting and everyone that participated brought home some knowledge of what to be on the lookout for.

Personally, one of the main things that our Mayor and the Sheriff pointed out…DO NOT BE AFRAID TO DIAL 911. You can always let them know it is not an emergency but you need to speak to a Sheriff when one is free to call you back. There is much more to share with you besides the latter, and if you were not at the meeting, you honestly missed out.

Below: A few snapshots taken at the Block Watch event.

Photo:Hummingbird

We were lounging on the deck the other day after putting up the hummingbird feeders.  The hummers put on quite a show.

The photo was shot with a 300mm lens at macro so it’s not the best shot but it is a fun one.

Photos: A Ride to Reiter Pit

We took a ride this morning to see if the Pit is being policed and taken care of until it reopens.

Beer cans were laying around but everything is blockaded.

We took a few snapshots for you though. It was a foggy morning and a bit chilly but the sun was out in areas and the ride, all 4 miles of it from Index up Reiter Road, was a pretty ride.

July 4, 2009 Town of Index Parade

The parade was a lot of fun this year.  Our Mayor, Bruce Albert, once again led the parade in due format.

The parade was a few minutes late getting started, but this Webmaster had a great time and did not care!

Photos: Flooding In Washington

The following photos were extracted from a PowerPoint Slide Show.  There aren’t any photos really from the local end, but they are interesting none the less.

01.18.09 – WE GOOFED!!!  We added even more photos today (13) courtesy of Heidi Ludwig.  I personally had them on my flash drive and forgot about them.  All of her photos were emailed to us and they are all of Snohomish.  Snohomish got hit pretty hard during the flooding (maybe not as bad as Pacific but it was bad).  Thank you Heidi for being one of our out of town reporters.

Stringing The Lights

Well, Mayor Bruce Albert once again climbed the tree in Dolittle Park as he has done yearly since 1980, to pull the lights up the tree.

Bill Cross and Dean Johnson were there to assist and I was there to shoot “snapshots” or so I thought.  I ended up helping out a bit as it really is a 3 man project on the ground with a 4th man up the tree.

Anyway, below are some shots for your viewing pleasure.  Trying to find Bruce in the tree is kind of a “Where’s Waldo” scenario.  OH, and don’t forget, the lighting is on Thursday after the play in the school gym.

Hope to see you there.

Photos: Skykomish River in Index 11.07.08

Shot these “snapshots” at 9:45am today. The river is rising and we are hoping it does not crest. You can hear the debris and logs crashing against the banks in some spots.
