Storm Phase II

Well, we made it through the night without losing power and it is beginning to rain.

We’ll call this Phase II. The river will soon begin raging and the weak branches that were held in place with ice will begin falling and the wall will begin with its mini-avalanches of rock and boulder.

Let’s hope power stays on for a few days!!

Power Outages Continue at Index, Wa.

Today must have been our 8th power outage within the town due to inclement weather. This one last about 10 hours, so if you think your buddies are ignoring your emails, they are not.

We have about 21″ to 23″ of snow in places in our yard.

Stay tuned.

Where’s The Snow?

Did I not just put out a short newsletter asking where the snow is? Oooops.

And it’s cold too. It’s currently 28 degrees and it normally drops another degree or two before 7am.

Well, I think in my next newsletter I’ll ask where the palm trees are. Maybe a couple of them will shoot up in town somewhere. :)

November is Upon Us: Stay Tuned

With November in full swing (wind, rain, a few dabs of slushy snow, snow on Index Wall off and on) it’s time for the weather watch.

Stay tuned to IndexWa.org (RSS Feed is a good way to remain updated) as we will once again begin posting the Weather Alerts as things roll in.

So far, so good. We read somewhere a while back that January is the wettest time for Index but in our book it’s November. Maybe the claim to January is from the snow.

Thank You Bill

Big thanks to Bill Cross, Maintenance Super for the Town of Index.

Bill was out clearing the roads again (well, it is his job) but the wind was BONE CHILLING and it was 30 degrees and he was in an open back hoe doing his job.

Big thanks Bill from all of us in the town.

Is it going to QUIT or????

It appears that the snow is messing with us.

Poor Bill Cross, the Town Maintenance “guy” is really putting in some hours, keeping our few streets as clean as he can. Between the compact ice and snow, it’s getting tougher as time passes.

Hopefully…See the rest on our Forums.

Photos: Snow as Of This Morning, Christmas Day

An email from Barb in Seattle says:

Hi Ed – we’re in Seattle and had 10″ here at north Lk. Union.  Our bigger question is how much snow is currently on the ground in Index?  We’re trying to get there to check on things, but can’t even get out of our street yet here in Seattle.  Any pictures you can post on the blog of the snow level?  Thanks, Barb

It’s a done deal Barb but STAY HOME.  It’s pretty bad here from Index Galena to the town.

Here are a few shots of the snow on our deck as of this morning.  They are not spectacular photos however.  One of our cars was buried and we mean BURIED yesterday so we dug it out and guess what.  It’s buried again this morning.

As of this writing, it is still snowing a bit.  We measured in the yard yesterday and it was 40+ inches.  We are at about 4′ or better now.  The icicles are 4-5′ long and 4-5″ around.

Hopefully it is about over.

Thanks For Keeping The Roads Clear

Thanks goes out to Bill Cross and our Mayor, Bruce Albert for keeping the roads clear around the town. It’s been a mess.

As I type, Bruce is out on the backhoe clearing the roads. Bill has been up all hours of the day and night plowing away. We have not had real heavy snow, just steady light snow non-stop for the past 24 hours.

My guess is around 2 feet so far in the past 3 days (at least that is what it is on my deck and around the yard. Drifts not included).

Thanks again you two for the hard work. It’s cold out there.

First Snow and……

Well, we have our first snow. It’s about 3-4″ as of 5am and it really has not totally stopped. Forecast is, it won’t stop anytime soon.

It’s pretty but it does get old. Bill Cross, our maintenance supervisor, must have been out real early plowing the roads and he is at it again at the moment (7:00am).

If we get some REAL SNOW, we will keep you informed.

On another note, my wife and I headed to Sultan yesterday and there were about 10 cop cars on the side of the road and everything was yellow-taped (crime seen) and a small rain cover was up for the officers to keep dry. A car was also taped up so it looked like a crime seen.

Yup….here is the article in the Everett Herald. It should be available for about 7 days or so. Fisherman’s body found in the Skykomish River.
